Monday April 30

Man ... it's the end of April. I'm happy to see the end of that one, to be frank.

Ah well, we worked on Act IV, i today in class. That would be Act four, scene one in modern English.

We watched this video, too. Also got 26, 27 and 29 for homework, too.

I also just updated the link of the text of the play.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday April 26

This has been a rather odd week.

Tuesday was a text day - we watched some of the play, too. Not the film version, but another version of the same text.

Wednesday was a day given over to working together and updating the teacher on the progress of the group by the leader of the group.

Thursday we will be working on Act 3 from Othello. I'd rather be further ahead on this play, but I'm enjoying this unit, to be honest.

Keep going! It's almost May! Wooooo!

Monday April 23

So today we read and watched Act three, scene 1-3.

It was pretty cool, everyone.

We had to watch a different version of the play. It was a live performance, too. In the Globe Theatre in London:

Nice.

Friday 20 April

Today we finished Act 2 of Othello.

We got to #14 on the list of questions to complete.

We also got a chance to work together and conference for the Seminars due May 4 and 7th.

We'll be doing a fair amount of that next week, too.

Sometimes subtitles don't quite work.

Thursday April 19

They have a seminar to work on that is due May 4th that was introduced yesterday. It should be a loud class, as they are to work in groups to establish what it is that they are going to work on together. Details will be on the course blog. Extra copies of the Seminar on Othello are already in the class at the back of the class as well as on the blog to download.

This class also has questions 1-9 already assigned to them, as well as other sections of a novel unit study to complete for April 24th

Wed April 18

So today we got through Act II, scene 1 and 2.

We also got question 9 for homework.

We also got the handout for the seminar due May 4th or May 7th.

Wed April 11

We have to watch this version of the St Crispians Day Speech

It’s a good speech

So ... Monday we watched the middle section of Renaissance Man, a great film about learning about Shakespeare. We are working through a set of questions on that film

Tuesday was the OSSLT, of course. The class was ... significantly reduced in terms of attendance in the afternoon. We got caught up on the Webquest and the Film study, too.

Friday April 6

We started ... a soft start ... the unit on Othello by doing a study of Renaissance Man, a film starring Danny DeVito.

The set of questions is here and on the right-hand side of the blog.

Thursday April 5

So ... I'm trying to be a part of the solution and keep things relaxed in my class leading up to next week.

We did do some work with the Introduction of Othello and shots and angles today.

We also watched Act one, scene one from Romeo and Juliet. I liked it because it was mentioned in a scene from Catcher in the Rye ... and it is also a pretty cool film version.

We also met Mercutio and the cast from Romeo and Juliet. We also were introduced to the characters in Othello.

It will be wonderful tomorrow.

And Monday.

Othello and Iago

Wednesday April 4

We did the unit quiz on Catcher today - we are done with that piece of literature...

on to Othello

I have a few people away over the next few days. I will post the powerpoint we walked through after the quiz later.  In the meantime, here is the Webquest for Othello. There will be "Helpful Links" for this unit on the Right-hand side of the blog.

Webquest on Othello by William Shakespeare

1.  Go to the Wikipedia page for Othello and also for a play called Coriolanus. Why, do you think, that the teacher sees so many similarities between these two plays?

2.  In a paragraph length formal piece of writing, speculate why we would have chosen this play to read this semester. Ideas might include the popularity of the author, the plot or even themes we have discussed in class.

3.  There is an awful lot of Shakespeare being performed around here in the summer – or really where ever you might be travelling this summer. What are two plays being performed and when are they being performed in the GTA/Where ever you will be this summer?

4.  Go to the IMDB.com entry for the film version we are watching in class. Who are the actors playing the five biggest roles in this version? What other famous films have they done?

5.  Which version of the play – paper or electronic – did you prefer in order for you to help “get” the play? Why do you think that is?

Tuesday April 3

Today we finished the novel.

Congratulations ... you are in the "I read Catcher in the Rye in high school" club. It's pretty exclusive, and it's hard to get in to it ... ;)

Any case, I made people aware of tomorrow, the Part 2 of the novel study being due and a quiz and stuff like that.

We will have things to write and do tomorrow, too.

Wooo!

Wed and Thursday March 29

We read, we did the character sketches and ... I forgot to post until just now.

Ugh.

We read until the end of Chapter 24 on Thursday. We will finish Catcher on Tuesday.
