Tuesday March 27

Expert guide to Holden's job

Today we read two chapters and got to number 27 assigned from the list of questions on the novel.

I thought it was a watershed moment when young Holden said that what he wanted to do for a living was "something crazy"

In any case, we also got started on the Character Sketches that are due as a part of Part 2 of the Novel Study package sue on April 4th

We'll finish that off tomorrow.

Monday March 26

So today we read two chapters in the novel.

The questions were assigned up to 22

and then we did a bit of work on the OSSLT prep part of the course.

And we also set the due date for the second part of Cather in the Rye - it's April 4th

Friday March 23

Whoa.

I'm so sorry I didn't update this. Man, it's a bad habit I will try and solve today.

In any case, on Friday we read a chapter, were assigned the next two questions from the list of questions.

We also did some conferencing about the Writing assignment for the Newspaper article on the novel.

Wednesday and Thursday

So ... I forgot to post. We mentioned this Wednesday

Then, we read chapter 16 and 17 yesterday and today.

Today we read and then we talked a little about writing a newspaper report ... yes, this one will count for your mark in the class. It is also a way to get my students ready for the Literacy Test being held April 10th.

Yeah, had to do it.

Tuesday March 20

We mentioned Romeo and Juliet today in class ... and also Lion King Two.

We read Chapter 15 and it was pretty silly, watching Holden try and chat with the nuns in the novel.

We also chatted about the last of the Theme Study and got ourselves ready for tomorrow.

Thursday March 8

I don't want to brag here .... but

I got a T/F question wrong. Meh, all good.

Lolz... In Period 3, I came third, so it equals out. All good.

In any case, we read to the end of Chapter 12 in the novel. We got 13, 14 and 15 from the questions from the novel, too.

All good, all good.

Be safe. See you tomorrow!

Wed March 7

...and so today, Holden's evening continues with Chapter 10

He meets the Lavender Room girls and talks about Peter Lorre and Gary Cooper. He thinks about the film The 39 Steps , Radio City Music Hall (pic above) and jitterbugging:

Yeah, that does look like too much effort to me, too.

We also did get the Theme Study sheet and we took some time to work our way through it.

I also reminded students about D2L and dropping a comment on a post on this blog.

Tuesday March 6

Wow ... I just discovered that it was Tuesday today. Sad English teacher.

In any case, we read to the end of Chapter 9 of the novel. We were assigned Question 12 from the list of questions, too. We also had some discussion about the Point of View of the novel.

I'm going to email myself so we can do a chunk of the Theme Study due on March 21, too.

We also chatted and did a walk through the D2L site for this course.

Holden mentioned "a girlfriend he had years ago" during these chapters, too.

Imaginary boyfriend from Canada .... ;)

Monday March 5

Soooo... I got to shout "Sleep tight ya morons!" today in class. Legally. I'm so happy.

Yup, by the sounds of it we got to the end of Chapter 7 and Holden has FINALLY left Pency. Took that young lad long enough.

We also got 10 and 11 from the list of questions. I also checked people's work ... just a peek over their shoulders to see if they were keeping up. Glad to report most were. We checked Twitter for references to Catcher in the Rye, and there was quite a bit on there. Social media helping enrich education for the win.

I also had the tests marked and returned today.

Friday March 2

Ok, I'm posting this Sunday night.
Sorry for that.
We read to the end of chapter 5 on Friday. We should have a two or three sentence answer for each of the questions from one to nine.

I hope everything else was awesome.
